Expungement

Expungement

How can something that “won’t go on your record” end up on your record?

Maybe you were arrested, but never formally charged?  When you took that plea for supervision were you told that it would not go on your record?  How about going to trial and being found not guilty?  Are you having a problem finding a job because an old legal issue that should not be causing you problems keeps popping up?

It may be because you have a record of some sort.  There may not be a conviction on your record, but there is a record out there.  Illinois law allows some people with limited records to have their records expunged or sealed. Are you one of them?

The office of the Illinois State Appellate Defender has some excellent resources explaining how to expunge or seal your record.  Included are the qualification guidelines as well as some forms to use.  You may also choose to have a lawyer help you through this process.

Matthew J. Haiduk is experienced in petitions to expunge and seal criminal records.  He has previously volunteered at the Cabrini Green Legal Aid Expungement Help Desk and has helped clients in private practice.  Call Haiduk now to discuss helping your future by clearing your  past.
